Mother Teresa

People are often unreasonable and self centered
Forgive them anyway

If you are kind, people may accuse you of alterior motives
Be kind anyway

If you are honest, people may cheat you
Be honest anyway

If you find happiness, poeple may be jealous
Be happy anyway

The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow
Do good anyway

Give the world your best and it may never be enough
Give your best anyway

For you see, in the end, it is between you and God
It never was between you and them anyway.

-Mother Teresa

Winston Churchil

"To every man there comes that special moment when he is figuratively tapped on the shoulder and offered the chance to do a special unique thing to him and fitted to his talent. What a tragedy if that moment finds him unprepared or unqualified for the work which would be his finest hour"
-Winston Churchill

Our Heavenly FATHER

"Of all the titles of respect and honor and admiration that are given to deity, he asked us to address him as father."
-Quorum of the 12 apostles

Today

This is a beginning of a new day.
God has given me this day to use as I will.
I can waste it or use it for good.
What I do today is important because I am exchanging a day of my life for it.
When tomorrow comes this day will be gone forever leaving in its place something I have traded for it.
I want it to be a gain not a loss,
good not evil,
success not failure,
In order that I shall not forget the price I have paid
Because my future is just a whole string of NOWS!

Motherhood

message given by the First Presidency at General Conference in 1942

"By bringing these choice spirits to earth, each father and each mother assume ... an obligation of the most sacred kind, because the fate of that spirit in the eternities to come, the blessings or punishments which shall await it in the hereafter, depend, in great part, upon the care, the teachings, the training which the parents shall give to that spirit.  No parent can escape that obligation and that responsibility, and for the proper meeting thereof, the Lord will hold us to a strict accountability.  No loftier duty than this can be assumed by mortals... Motherhood thus becomes a holy calling, a sacred dedication for carrying out the Lord's plans, a consecration of devotion to the uprearing and fostering, the nurturing in body, mind, and spirit, of those who kept their first estate and who come to this earth for their second estate to see if they will do all things whatsoever the Lord their God shall command them.  To lead them to keep their second estate is the work of motherhood, and they who keep their second estate shall have glory added upon their heads for ever and ever."

YW Lesson: Service "You are My Hands"

-Share story from Uchtdorfs talk: "You are My Hands" (Ensign May 2010)
?What does that mean to you? How can you be his hands?
-President Kimball: "God does notice us, and he watches over us. It usually through another person that he meets our needs. Therefore it is vital that we serve eachother....In the Doctrine and Covenants we read about how important it is to 'succor the weak, lift up the hands which hang down, and strengthen the feeble knees' (D&C 81:5). So often our acts of service consist of simple encouragement of of giving mundane tasks-but what glorious consequences can flow from mundane acts abd from small but deliberate deeds" ("There is Purpose in Life", New Era Sept 1974)
-On Presidents Monson's birthday, they asked him what gift he would want the members of the church to give him. He said, to serve. He received letters upon letters from people sharing what act of service they gave. One primary boy said his was to give his mom hugs and kisses everyday.
?:What are some ways we can serve?
(examples: My son sharing his halloween candy with his friends and dividing it up equally. My sophomore year of high school, buying lunch for a girl who forgot her money-months later she wrote me a heartfelt note explaining how much that day meant to her)
-President Monson: "Often we live side by side, but do not communicate heart to heart."
-Share story about man who would ask his kids the same question every night at dinner. "What have you done for someone today." Remember that service requires action
-Uchtdorf quote:
-Uchtdorf shared a Jewish legend about 2 brothers working in a field. At the end of the day, they divided the lot up equally. One brother could not sleep thinking of how his brother must need more to feed his family. The other brother thought that his brother could use more because he was all alone. Both woke up in the morning to find their lot was the same as the day before. They discovered they had both tried to give the other more.
-Monson's talks about how we can let the day to day get in the way of service
?What kind of thoughts might hold us back from serving?
?What excuses might we make? (example: SURELY someone else will stop and take care of it).
?Do you know anyone who is always serving? What are they like?
-Attitude while serving
?Are people always going to express their gratitude?
(example, Christ healing the 10 lepers, and only 1 returned to thank him).
?How can our attitude effect the way we serve?
Closing: Read the words to the Hymn "Each Life That Touches Ours for Good."

1. Each life that touches ours for good
Reflects thine own great mercy, Lord;
Thou sendest blessings from above
Thru words and deeds of those who love.
2. What greater gift dost thou bestow,
What greater goodness can we know
Than Christlike friends, whose gentle ways
Strengthen our faith, enrich our days.
